THE RACE
Enjoy nature at Lums Pond State Park. Starting and finishing at Area 1, the Bear Trail Half Marathon & 10K uses portions of the Little Jersey and Swamp Forest trails. The course is a mix of single track, wide trails and is relatively flat in elevation. This race is appropriate for all level runners including beginners.

AGE REQUIREMENT
Runners must be at least 14 years old to participate in the Half Marathon.
Runners must be at least 7 years old to participate in the 10K.

Registration transfers are not permitted to other RIVAL race events. Race organizers reserve the right to close registration due to capacity limits. Race organizers reserve the right to delay or cancel event due to extreme weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Pets, baby joggers/strollers, in-line skates, bicycles, and any other non-official wheeled vehicles are prohibited.

Parking will be in Area 1 at Lums Pond State Park. The start finish line is located next the parking lot in the grass area.

PACKET PICK UP
Registered participants are required to pick up their packet before the start of the race. You packet includes your race bib and timing chip. If you're unable to attend packet pick-up, someone may pick up your packet on your behalf. Packet pick up will be on race day only at the race venue beginning at 7:30 AM.
WAVE START
To ensure runner safety and to reduce the amount of passing during the first few miles of the race, runners will self seed themselves at the start of the race. Each wave will consist or both half marathon & 10K runners.
IMPORTANT: Most trail runners tend to run at least 1 min slower per mile on trail surface as compared to running on the road. If you are unsure of your trail pace per mile, please estimate slower than you would normally run at a road race.

BIB TRANSFERS
Allowing a non-registered runner to use your bib is NOT PERMITTED.
RACE CATEGORY CHANGES
Prior to the start of the race:
Runners may elect to switch from the Half Marathon to the 10K (or vice versa), at packet pick up on race day. Please let the registration tent know when you pick up your race bib.
Switching during the race:
For Half Marathon runners - If during the race, you decided not to complete both loops of the course, you will be removed from the race results (marked as DQ) and will not be eligible for awards. Runners will still receive a finisher medal.
RUN COURSE
The race starts and finishes at Area 1 inside the Lums Ponds State Park. The race uses various sections of the Swamp Forest and Little Jersey trails. Both trails are use natural surface and will be marked indicating the route on race day. Any type of running shoe is appropriate for this race.
10K - one loop of course (6.55 miles)
Half Marathon - two loops of course (13.1 miles)

HALF MARATHON COURSE REQUIREMENT
All runners will reach mile 6.55 (start 2nd loop) by 11:03 AM. Runners that have not completed this distance by 11:03 AM will not be permitted to continue on the course. A 18:20 per mile pace was used to determine this required course cut off time.
WATER STATIONS
To reduce the amount of contact between runners and race management, participants are HIGHLY encourage to wear a camelback or fuel belt during the race. There will be 2 aid stations along the loop course. Both will be serving water and Gatorade.
Water Station # 1 is located at mile 3 and mile 9.5 on the looped course.
Water Station # 2 is located at the start/finish line (start of 2nd loop for half marathoners).
BATHROOMS
The bathroom building located in Area 1 will be open.
There are no bathrooms along the run course.
PARTICIPANT SHIRT & FINISHER MEDAL
Participants will receive the shirt size they selected at online registration. We will purchase extra participant shirts to anticipate final registration numbers. Shirt exchanges can be completed at the conclusion of the race. Athletes will receive a finisher medal at the finish line.
TIMING & RESULTS
This race will be using bib tag timing. Your timing chip will be affixed to the back side of your bib number. Please do not remove your timing chip. If you drop out of the race at any point, please notify member of the race staff. It is essential that we know where you are on the course at all times for your safety and our peace of mind.
Results will be posted directly online in real time. Finishers can use their smart phone to access their individual results by viewing the RESULTS webpage at the conclusion of their race.
AWARDS
Awards will be given to the following categories for the Half Marathon and 10K:
Overall Male - Top 3
Overall Female - Top 3
Overall Non-Binary - Top 3
Top 1st Place finisher (only) in each age group.
Age groups are defined as 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89.
Participants must accept their award in-person at the conclusion of the race.
Awards will NOT be mailed to participants. Friends of runners may accept an award on your behalf.
