 THE RACE 

This race consists of an 5 mile, 10 mile, or a 2-person 10 mile relay option at Rockburn Branch Park in Elkridge, Maryland. The race terrain is easy to moderate in difficulty - perfect for both beginners and experienced runners. Registration fee includes a long sleeve shirt and finisher medal. 

A portion of the race proceeds benefits Bigfoot Endurance, which is a nonprofit organization that raises money and awareness for Parkinson’s research. To learn more about Bigfoot Endurance, click www.bigfootendurance.com.

Registration transfers are not permitted to other RIVAL race events. Race organizers reserve the right to close registration due to capacity limits. Race organizers reserve the right to delay or cancel event due to extreme weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Pets, baby joggers/strollers, in-line skates, bicycles, and any other non-official wheeled vehicles are prohibited.

RIBBON TRAIL
A section of the course will be “In Honor/Memory Of” people who are living with or have lived with Parkinson’s Disease.  Orange ribbons will be hung along this section of the course with “In Honor/Memory Of” messages written by race participants or their friends, family, or supporters.  To add your message to the Ribbon Trail (whether you’re participating in the race or not), you can write on a ribbon at packet pick-up, or send your message to Team@BigfootEndurance.com, and a team member will write your message on a ribbon for you.
 
PACKET PICK-UP 
Registered participants are required to pick up their packet before the start of the race. This includes getting your bib, timing chip and shirt. Runners must attend one of the below options:
 
Saturday, Feb 28

BIB TRANSFERS 
Allowing a non-registered runner to use your bib is NOT PERMITTED. 

RACE CATEGORY CHANGES 
Prior to race weekend:
If you decide to switch from the 10 miler to the 5 miler (or vise versa), please let us know by email prior to race day. The deadline to switch race category by email is Thursday, Feb 27. Please send email to racedirector@ripitevents.com.
 
Prior to the start of the race:
Runners may elect to switch from the 10 miler to the 5 miler (or vice versa) at packet pick up on March 1 or 2. Please let us know when you pick up your race bib. 

Switching during the race:
For 10 mile runners - If during the race, you decided not to complete both loops of the 10 mile course, you will be removed from the race results (marked as DQ) and will not be eligible for awards. 10 mile runners will still receive a finisher medal.

WAVE START 
IMPORTANT - To reduce the amount of passing during the first few miles of the race, participants will start in waves based on their average pace per mile. Each wave will consist of both 5 and 10 mile participants.

Wave 1 - 9:30 min per mile and faster
Wave 2 - 9:31 - 11:00 min per mile
Wave 3 - 11:01 min per mile and slower

RUN COURSE 
The course is run inside Rockburn Park. The race starts and finishes on the gravel path between the playground and pavilion. The course consists of packed gravel and natural surface trail. A small portion of the course is on paved surface. The 5 Miler is one loop of the course. The 10 Miler is the 5 Miler loop twice. ​

10 MILE COURSE REQUIREMENT
All runners must reach mile 5 (start 2nd loop) in 1 hour and 40 min. Runners who have not completed this distance by 10:46 am (which requires runners to average approximately 20:00 per mile) will not be permitted to continue on the course. 
 
RELAY TEAMS (2 RUNNERS)
Only one runner from each team is permitted on the run course at any given time.
Runner A will start the race in their assigned wave and complete one loop of the run course. 
Runner A will exchange their race bib number (timing chip affixed to back side of bib number) at the 2nd loop bump our area with Runner B. Runner B will complete one loop of the run course into the finish line. At the finish line, runner B will get two finisher medals (one for each teammate). To view the relay exchange area, click HERE

WATER STATIONS 
There are no water stations on the 5 mile loop. There will be one water station at mile 5.1 (start of 2nd loop for 10 mile runners). All runners are encouraged  to wear a camel back, fuel belt, or carry a water bottle.

BATHROOMS
Porta-potties will be stationed at the start/finish line. There are no bathrooms on the run course.

PARTICIPANT SHIRT
Register by Feb 8 to be guaranteed a shirt. Participants will receive the shirt size they selected at online registration.  Participants who registered after Feb 8 can pick up a shirt after they complete their race while inventory lasts. Shirt exchanges can be completed at the conclusion of the race at the check-in tents. Athletes will receive a finisher medal at the finish line.

FINISHER MEDAL
Athletes who finish the 10 Miler, 5 Miler, or their leg of the 10 Miler Relay will receive a finisher medal.

FREE BEER!
This race will have post-race beer! Participants will receive a race bib at packet pick up. Each race bib contains TWO tear-off BEER COUPON tags. Each coupon can be redeemed for ONE beer in the post race area. All participants MUST show their ID to redeem coupons. Don't forget to bring your ID to the race! 

TIMING & RESULTS
This race will use bib tag timing. Your timing chip will be affixed to the back side of your bib number. Please do not remove your timing chip. This event will be publishing LIVE results throughout the race. To access results on race day, go to www.rivalraceseries.com and access the "Results" webpage from your smart phone. Choose this race from the race options and enter your bib number on the results page.

Awards will be given to following categories for both the 5 Miler and 10 Miler. 
 
Overall Male - Top 3
Overall Female - Top 3
Overall Non-Binary - Top 3
Age Group - Top 3 (male & female) 7-8, 9-10, 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39,
40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, All Male Relay, All Female Relay, Coed Relay

Participants must accept their award in-person at the conclusion of the race.
Awards will NOT be mailed to participants. Friends of runners may accept an award on your behalf.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
In the case of inclement weather, all participants will be notified of changes to the race by email. A message will be at the top of the race web site and will be posted on our social media channels. This race will be run in the rain and light snow.
